Equipment Material of Construction (MOC)

The material used to construct an equipment surface

The equipment material of construction, often shortened as "material of construction", is the type of material used for a piece of manufacturing equipment or tool. In ICH Q7, Good Manufacturing Practice Guidance for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients there is an expectation that product contact surfaces do not alter the quality of the product beyond the established specifications. Two very common MOC are stainless steel with a finished surface and glass (or glass lining) as they are also resistant to harsh chemicals that pose a risk to degrading equipment surfaces and subsequently impacting product quality.
